The app already has over 500 million active monthly users, of which over 200 million are paying a monthly or yearly fee to the platform. Spotify, one of the most popular music streaming apps, also hosts tons of podcasts. The free version may show too many ads for some people's liking, in which case users can get the premium version for $0.99/month. Further, they can leave comments on episodes, sharing their feedback with the creator. ![]() Users can also download and save podcasts to listen to them offline. Castbox's free version contains plenty of features, including Volume Boost, Trim Silence, Playback Speed, Android Auto, and Apple CarPlay support. What sets this app apart is that it has an active Community section where listeners can interact with each other through text-based threads.Ī Discover section allows users to browse through the library and pick up the titles they like, and there's a good chance that they'll find some of the most popular audio shows on the platform. Apart from hosting over a million podcasts, the app supports 70 languages. On the Google Play Store, the app has over 270,000 ratings with an average of 4.6 stars, whereas the App Store rates the app at 4.7. Maybe 5-10min or something.Castbox is among the most popular podcast apps on Android and iOS. It seems to require that audio be playing for at least a short while, as it would when going for an actual drive, though I'm not sure what the exact threshold would be. I would also add that just turning the car on, connecting CarPlay with phone screen on, playing a pod, and then shutting off the car immediately does not seem to reliably trigger the behavior either. I think it's maybe not 100% of the time, but definitely happens pretty often and is more reproducible now that I know the phone display on/off state is part of the issue. When the phone display is on, though, and the car is shut off, audio frequently continues playing through the phone speaker, as previously described. To date, I don't believe I've ever seen the same happen when the phone display is off at the time the car is shut off. My observation is that the bug with the audio continuing after turning the car off occurs exclusively when the phone display is on. An example of this is using Waze for GPS navigation the map is on the car display, but using the phone as a secondary display shows upcoming directions in the form of a list. Speaking specifically for iPhone, when connecting to the car via CarPlay, one has the option of using the car display exclusively with the phone screen off, or using the phone screen lit up as a secondary display. I've been trying to pay closer attention to spot a pattern, and I think what's going on is related to whether the phone screen is in an on or off state. Now that I think I've isolated it, I'll try to track it better and look for a reproducible pattern. I haven't really been tracking this issue closely enough, because at first I wasn't sure it was specific to PocketCasts. I also don't think it happens 100% of the time, but it can at least be described as pretty frequent. So if the audio keeps playing, I definitely hear it. Unlike the OP, I don't have the issue of the audio playing silently if volume is down, but that's likely because I'd never lower my volume down to 0, and the iPhone silence switch mutes ringer/alerts but not music/podcasts.When powering off my bluetooth headphones, this also does not happen. When playing Music, this does not happen. ![]()
